Dev Bondarin is a New York-based theater director. She was recently named as Artistic Director of Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) and is also the Associate Artistic Director of Prospect Theater Company.
Dev's directing credits include: In The Bones (Astoria Performing Arts Center), Two Bugs Are Better Than One (New York City Children's Theater - formerly Making Books Sing), (King Lear (starring Tony Award Nominee Stephen Mo Hanan and nominated for two New York Innovative Theater Awards with American Bard Theater Company), Reefer Madness: The Musical (nominated for a New York Innovative Theater Award for Outstanding Production of a Musical) and The House of Blue Leaves with The Gallery Players, Jay Alan Zimmerman's Incredibly Deaf Musical, a benefit for the Hearing Heath Foundation at the Marjorie Deane Little Theatre, A Home Across the Ocean with MTWorks, Romeo & Juliet in Prospect Park with EBE Ensemble, Thucydides at the Samuel French Festival (winner–published February 2010), and Raised By Lesbians at the New York International Fringe Festival.
With Prospect, Dev curates, directs, and produces the company's annual musical theater lab where writers are commissioned to write short musicals on a central theme. Past labs include: Street Seen (2014), Portraits (2013), Rites of Passage (2012), Souvenir Stories (2011), Snapshots (2010), and Map Quest (2009). Dev also curates and directs Prospect's Summer Teen Intensive Showcases--the most recent of which, Riffnotes: The Musical, premiered at the New York Musical Theater Festival in July 2014--and produced the company's Dark Night Series from 2006-2009.
Dev has developed new work and and directed with Davenport Theatricals, The New York Musical Theatre Festival, IATI Theater, Abingdon Theatre, The Fresh Fruit Festival, Luna Stage, Milk Can Theatre, Manhattan Theatre Source, New York Madness, Mission to Ditmars, American Globe Theater, and On the Square Productions. She also serves on the reading committees for the New York Musical Theater Festival, Estrogenius, and the Leah Ryan Fund for Emerging Women Writers. She has collaborated with many playwrights, lyricists, bookwriters, and composers, including Cheryl Davis, Andrea Lepcio, Monica Bauer, Janine Nabers, Fengar Gael, James Armstrong, Cody Daigle, Jacqueline Goldfinger, Adam Mathias, Sheilah Rae, Michele Brourman, Sam Carner & Derek Gregor, and Sammy Buck & Dan Acquisto, and has assisted directors Kate Whoriskey, Jim Simpson, and Mary B. Robinson.
Dev holds an MFA in Directing from Brooklyn College where she was the recipient of the Joel Zwick Prize for Excellence in Directing and a Buchwald Fellowship and graduated cum laude with a BA in Theater Arts (with highest honors) and Art History from Brandeis University. She has been awarded an SDC Observership and is a member of MTWorks (www.mtworks.org) the Lincoln Center Directors Lab and an Associate Member of SDC and the League of Professional Theatre Women.
